UX for Video: Part Two

A User Journey.

Read Part One.

We developed a persona for the user/viewer of our videos. Youtube’s analytics revealed that 55% of viewers watched the videos on their desktops, mainly during the day and mainly the day after their league matches. 27.3% watched on their mobile screens.

55% of viewers watched the videos on their desktops, mainly during the day and mainly the day after their league matches. 27.3% watched on their mobile screens.

We we paid attention to what videos they watched and gleaned information from their viewing patterns. Here’s where the UX process comes in. All this information pointed to four different shots that were pain points for people:

  • Returns
  • Volleys
  • Overheads
  • Drop shots.

The pros helped us on this one by explaining that most of the time players missed these shots due to slow or sloppy footwork.

It was clear the path the video producers had to travel to get more views, and this was illuminated by using the UX process. After that, views and engagement increased. I don’t know if we would have have figured it out otherwise.
